The Bronx Defenders (BxD) invites rising third-year (3l) law students and recent law school graduates to propose innovative fellowship projects for submission to Equal Justice Works, Skadden, the Soros Justice Fellowship Program, and/or similar programs (including law school-specific fellowships), to begin in the fall of 2019.
BxD is a public defender non-profit that is radically transforming how low-income people in the Bronx are represented in the justice system, and, in doing so, is transforming the system itself. Our diverse staff of over 300 includes interdisciplinary teams made up of criminal, civil, immigration, and family defense attorneys, as well as social workers, benefits specialists, legal advocates, parent advocates, investigators, and team administrators, all of whom collaborate to provide holistic legal and social service advocacy. Through this integrated team-based structure, we have pioneered a groundbreaking, nationally recognized model of representation called holistic defense that achieves better outcomes for our clients.
Proposals should relate to one of three practice areas at BxD: Civil Action, Immigration Defense, or Impact Litigation (Please note: we are not accepting fellowship proposals for our Criminal Defense or Family Defense practice areas this year). Candidates should propose a specific project, while remaining flexible to change based on the needs of our organization and of the Bronx community.
