Overview

The Bronx Defenders - an innovative, progressive, holistic indigent defense office in the South Bronx – seeks an Executive Assistant to the new Executive Director (ED).

Responsibilities

The Assistant reports directly to the ED and will be responsible for providing writing, research, communications, development, and general administrative support to the ED and other key employees.  The Assistant will also act as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders such as the Board of Directors, government agencies, funders, heads of peer organizations, and The Bronx Defenders' executive management team.  The Assistant will have opportunities to work with clients through community organizing, policy, and civic engagement projects. This position is ideal for a recent college graduate who is passionate about holistic public defense and excited about contributing to an organization dedicated to racial and social justice.

 

The Executive Assistant will:

  • Help write and edit articles, speeches, grants, press releases, Op-Eds, posts for social media, marketing materials, and letters for the ED
  • Assist with the ED’s fundraising and community outreach efforts, including assisting with the coordination of annual events and major fundraisers such as The Bronx Defenders' Annual Gala
  • Work closely with key staff in The Bronx Defenders' Communications, Development, Finance, and Human Resources teams as well as the General Counsel to prepare for upcoming meetings and events and serve as a liaison to the Executive Director
  • Provide administrative support to the Board of Directors including scheduling meetings, preparing materials, disseminating materials, and taking minutes
  • Support the executive management team in coordinating meetings, coordinating logistics of site visits and tours, and other administrative functions
  • Manage the ED’s calendar, coordinate appointments and meetings, gather information and prepare meeting materials and agendas, take minutes, and assist with travel arrangements
  • Sort, screen and distribute all correspondence including phone calls and mail and determine level of priority
  • Other duties as assigned by the ED and senior management

Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Outstanding research capabilities
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and follow through on tasks in a timely manner
  • Passion for holistic public defense, racial justice, and social justice
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and follow through on issues in a timely manner
