The Robert P. Patterson Mentoring Program--an innovative mentoring program for Bronx youth housed at The Bronx Defenders--seeks energetic mentors with a commitment to social justice, community, and a passion for working with young people.

The Robert P. Patterson Mentoring Program provides Bronx youth with meaningful support and interventions by creating an innovative, team based, community oriented mentoring program for selected youth at The Bronx Defenders.  Each youth receives two mentors: community and legal. The community mentor is a person who is from/lives in the Bronx. This person is essential to the match relationship because they provide guidance and support for Bronx youth who are navigating the challenges of systemic poverty. The legal mentor is a person who works in the legal profession ( ie attorney, legal advocate, investigator, etc). This person helps the youth understand the role of lawyers and the justice system. They are also responsible for exposing the youth to different social networks as well as academic and professional development skills. The roles of the community and legal mentors will adapt based on the the match relationship. The youth’s family is also a huge component to the program. We aim to include the youth’s family in programs, activities, and organizational services.
